Frequently asked questions

Step by step for iPhone and Android: install your eSIM and set the APN.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital SIM card built into your phone. Instead of inserting a plastic card, you download the mobile profile via QR code. Most current phones can store several eSIMs and use them alongside your normal SIM.

Does an eSIM work with my phone?

Your device must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. This applies to all iPhones from XS/XR, Samsung Galaxy from S20, Google Pixel from 3 and many other models. Check your model in our list of compatible devices.

When will I receive my eSIM?

Immediately after successful payment – usually within a few seconds. You see the QR code directly on the order page and also receive it by email.

When should I install the eSIM?

Ideally before departure while you have Wi-Fi. Validity still only starts when the eSIM connects to a network at your destination for the first time. At your destination you just switch on data roaming for the eSIM.

What is an APN and do I need to set it?

The APN (Access Point Name) is the access point your phone uses for mobile internet. For many of our eSIMs it is set automatically. For some plans you have to enter it once yourself – this is shown on the plan (“Manual APN”), and after purchase we show you the exact value and instructions.

I have signal but no internet – what should I do?

Check three things: 1. Is the travel eSIM selected for mobile data? 2. Is data roaming switched on for the eSIM? 3. If required for your plan, is the correct APN entered? If that does not help, briefly switch flight mode on and off.

Will my phone number stay reachable?

Yes. The eSIM is installed in addition, your normal SIM stays active. Calls and SMS still use your number – mind your provider’s roaming prices.

Can I install the eSIM several times?

No. A QR code can technically only be installed once. So do not delete the eSIM while you still want to use it.

Can I make calls with the eSIM?

Most plans are data-only. You can call via WhatsApp, FaceTime & co. Plans with minutes and SMS are marked accordingly.

Can I use my phone as a hotspot?

On most networks, yes. Note that this uses more data.

What happens when my data runs out?

Then the data connection via the eSIM ends. You can simply buy another eSIM for your destination.

I cannot install the eSIM – what should I do?

Check that you are connected to the internet and try manual entry with SM-DP+ address and activation code instead of the QR code. If that does not help, write to us with your order number.

Can I withdraw from my order?

As we deliver the eSIM immediately at your express request, the right of withdrawal expires upon delivery. If the eSIM does not work for reasons we are responsible for, you get a replacement or your money back.

Do WhatsApp, Google and Instagram work with the eSIM?

In most Asian countries, yes, without restrictions. In some countries (e.g. China) certain services are blocked on local networks; travel eSIMs usually route data abroad, so these services generally remain available. We cannot guarantee this, though.

Is an eSIM cheaper than a SIM card at the airport?

Often, yes – mainly because you do not lose time at the airport, do not need to show your passport and know the exact price in advance. Your normal SIM also stays in your phone.
